For the last few years the table preparations for family gatherings have been turned over to the grandaughters to enjoy and work up their skills on. At first they worked with the many things I have around already for entertaining with, then this year I began to give oldest grandaughter, Sara, a budgeted amount to work on adding to the table decorations for the gatherings. To make the amount stretch she must do special clearance items so they are reasonable. She must work within her budget and with the exception of the candles, they must be something that can be used for years to come. The candles are to be clearance items, also, to make the expenditure more reasonable. The girls can add all the handmade or naturally accessible items they wish. Sara went to an 80% clearance this year and got $125 worth of table decorations for $23, enough to last us for years to come, especially as we "make them over a bit" some years to change them up. She designed the place settings and the centerpieces and the girls all worked with her for set up. While the last of the hot foods finished cooking in the oven, we filled out our thankful lists, looked over our 101 Thanksgiving Blessings books given to all (that I had gotten), sang the hymn "We Gather Together", and had prayer.(Sara is a photographer and takes marvelous photos, but I had to reduce the quality a bit in this collection to make the KB size a bit easier to e-mail out!)
